ABOUT SHANNON
Welcome!
My name is Shannon Martin and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am naturally encouraging, compassionate and empathic. I enjoy supporting and guiding my clients in making healthy decisions that propel them to live happier lives.
I specialize in helping individuals navigate relationships, process trauma, explore gender identity, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I enjoy empowering my clients to find freedom and confidence within themselves rather than who the society says they should be.
My goal is to empower and equip you with the necessary tools needed to build healthy relationships as well as accomplish mental health and wellness, educational, and career goals.
My counseling style is engaging, conversational and collaborative. I work in tandem with clients to pursue change based on your unique personality and fundamental values. Our work will be centered around safety and trust.
WORK EXPERIENCE
I have over 10 years of experience helping to guide children, teens and adults through counseling and mentorship using a compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental approach. My most recent experience entails working with survivors of Human Trafficking, Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Domestic Violence. This has given me meaningful insight on the best evidence based techniques and approaches to address PTSD and Complex PTSD and how it manifests itself.
I follow The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of care. I have experience serving Individuals within the LGBTQIA community and helping to guide clients in exploring their gender identity.
Since 2014, I have had the privilege of serving as an adjunct professor focusing on implementing effective coping skills, financial literacy, time management, and goal setting amongst first year college students. I am passionate about promoting student success, narrowing educational disparities, and advocating as well as empowering underrepresented groups. I have acquired a great deal of experience working with young professionals struggling with identity and life satisfaction.

My formal training includes a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Prairie View A & M University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from Abilene Christian University.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE
It has always been my dream to have a mental health private practice. In 2018, that dream became a reality when I went into private practice. My mission is to empower and equip clients with the necessary tools needed to attain optimal mental health, build stronger relationships as well as achieve personal, educational, and career goals. I enjoy living life to the fullest. My hobbies include sipping coffee or tea while reading a good book, spending time with my husband, family, friends and 14 year old "Doxie Pooh". I love traveling and learning about various cultures.
