Welcome!
My name is Shayra Gonzales and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate. I am a passionate therapist with a trauma-informed approach who believes in individualizing treatment to your specific needs is key during the healing process. You deserve to be encouraged, supported, and guided towards better self-discovery in a safe therapeutic environment to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.
My goal is to meet you with empathy, respect, and an open mind. I will strive to instill hope by empowering clients to discover and build on their own strengths. Some changes can be more difficult than others, and I believe therapy can help individuals navigate through difficulties and other stressors. Come with me to the journey of introspection and we will find healing in the end.
WORK EXPERIENCE
I have six years of experience working with children and adults providing individual and family counseling, including extensive experience providing trauma-informed care with immigrant families, and youth involved with the foster care and juvenile justice systems. I specialize in life challenges such as depression, anxiety, transitions, grief, relationships, or immigration can be difficult at all ages of life.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
My formal training includes a Master's in Psychological Counseling from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. My bachelor degree is in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Psychology.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
Fun things that I like to do are: Travel and explore relax, go to parks and spend time with family and friends.
WHAT IS AN LPC ASSOCIATE?
*An LPC-Associate is a temporarily licensed professional counselor. LPC Interns hold a Master's degree in counseling or related field, have undergone a 500+ hour practicum, and have successfully passed the National Counselor Exam (NCE). In the state of Texas, Interns must complete 3,000 hours of additional supervised counseling experience before they can receive full licensure and practice independently with out a supervisor.
