ABOUT DANA

 THERAPIST

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined” -Henry Thoreau

Welcome!

My name is Dana Denson. Currently, I am dually licensed as Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. I believe that taking a leap towards wellness and beginning your therapeutic journey is a very courageous thing to do. As a therapist I am passionate and believe in using the trauma-informed care and strength-based approach with individuals who are seeking guidance and wellness.

My interests and specialties include serving clients with depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, health-related issues, work and academic related stress, career exploration and change, family conflict, and much more. I utilize a variety of theories and modalities which incorporate best practices from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), psychoeducation, and short-term problem solving.

WORK EXPERIENCE

For the past 10 years I have worked in various treatment settings to include community-based care, residential treatment, juvenile detention, alternative school setting, managed care, and outpatient therapy.  I have served a variety of client populations to include children, adolescents, adults, older adults, couples, and families. In addition to private practice, I work in managed care providing crisis intervention, consultation, individual and family counseling services to those who are members of corporation based or public sector health insurance coverage.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences at the University of Florida. I earned a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. This was followed by a clinical internship at a youth residential treatment facility in Orlando, Florida that provided therapeutic treatment to at-risk youth, foster care, families, and adolescents who were committed to the juvenile court system. My trainings are completed on an on-going basis through a variety of continuing education opportunities.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE

Life can throw you several curveballs. When faced with challenges I like to look at the whole picture and dissect it until the problem is resolved. Taking time to look at myself in a whole, I am made up of love, knowledge, and encouragement. I enjoy spending time with my husband and baby girl. Their presence and laughter bring me joy daily.
